IB MYP

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is not just educational content, but rather a certain approach to the learning process. That means that we complete the Polish core curriculum according to and within the framework of the high educational standards set forth by the IB establishment. The programme is developed for students aged 11–16 and constitutes the second educational stage in the international IB programme.

Why the MYP?

The MYP is more than just grades and memorising facts.

The MYP not only emphasises academic knowledge, but also focuses on personal development, including its social, emotional, physical and ethical aspects. All the above are extremely important during this intensive development stage in every adolescent’s life.

MYP teaches for life, not just academic achievements.

The MYP programme develops communication skills, abilities necessary for effective cooperation and reflective thinking, vital for success at school and in the real world.

It helps students become responsible, committed and emphatic adults, ready to take up challenges and shape the face of the contemporary, fast changing world.

Why is the MYP programme so effective at accomplishing educational goals?

  • It encourages inquisitiveness, critical thinking and in-depth exploration of various matters.
  • It motivates students to think and act independently.
  • The programme shifts initiative towards the student, who in turn becomes an active agent of the learning process.
  • Students are provided with an opportunity for creative expression and practical use of their newly acquired knowledge (learning by doing).
  • It focuses on contextual learning – adolescents learn best when acquired knowledge can be connected with their experiences and the wider world.
  • It teaches responsibility and makes students aware of local and global problems, making them more conscious of their role in the world.
  • It emphasises a multicultural perspective.
  • It promotes inclusive education.
  • It shapes young people who have empathy, respect and understanding for others.
  • It seeks to find a balance between academic success and pursuit of non-academic interests.
  • It strengthens students’ inner motivation.
  • It builds self-assurance and assertiveness in students.
  • It develops skills and abilities according to the IB Learner Profile.
  • As all the programmes (PYP, MYP and DP) share common educational goals, the MYP ensures a smooth transition to further education within the scope of the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP).
